Ingredients.

3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
5 Tbs baking power
1 tbs sugar plus 1/4 cup
3/4 cup (1 1/2 sticks) margarine or butter,cut into pieces
4 large eggs
1/2 cup milk

Directions.

1. Preheat oven to 450F.Grease 2 large cookie sheets.

2. In large bowl,combine flour,baking power,salt,and 2 tablespoons sugar.With pastry blender or 2 knives used scissor-fashion,cut in margarine until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

3. In small bowl, beat eggs.Reserve 2 tablespoons beaten egg for brushing on scones later.Stir milk into remaining beaten eggs.Stir egg mixture into flour mixture just until ingredients are blended.

4. Turn dough onto lightly floured surface,with floured rolling pin,lightly roll dough into 12''by8'' rectangle.Cut dough into 4-inch squares,cut each square into 2 triangles.With wide spatula,place triangles 2 inches apart on prepared cookie sheets.Brush tops with reserved beaten egg and sprinkle evenly with 1/4 cup sugar.

5. Bake scones until golden,10-15 minutes.Serve warm,or cool them on wire rack, wrap in single layer of foil.Reheat befor serving,if desired.Makes 1 dozen scones.
