Ingredients.

1 lb. sweet Italian sausage ( or polish)
1/2 lb. ground beef
2 tbsp. sugar
1 1/2 tbsp. basil
1/4 tsp. pepper
large can tomatoes (28oz.)
1 chopped onion
2 cloves garlic, cut fine
1 tbsp. salt
1 tbsp. fennel seed
1/4 cup. parsley
6 oz. tomato paste

Take casting off sausage. Put meats in large frying pan. Simmer until well browned. Add onion, garlic etc. Add sugar and spices. Stir well. Add tomatoes and tomato paste (mixed with 1/2 cup water). Bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer covered, stirring occasionally until thickened, (1 1/2 hours).

COTTAGE CHEESE MIXTURE:

1 lb. container cottage cheese
1/2 tsp. salt
1 egg
1/4 c. chopped parsley

Beat egg in small bowl .Add cottage cheese, salt and parsley.Mix well. Noodles: Cook about 12 lasagna noodles in large pan so they lie flat. ADDITIONAL INGREDIENTS:12-14 mozzarella cheese slices, Parmesan cheese.

TO PREPARE: Use 13x9x2 pan.Cover bottom of pan with layer of sauce. Lay 6 noodles lengthwise and overlapping each other. Spread 1/2 cottage mixture on top. Cover with mozzarella slices. Add 1/2 the remaining sauce. Add 6 more noodles, remainder of cottage cheese. Cover with mozzarella slices and rest of sauce. Top with layers of mozzarella slices and Parmesan cheese, (optional). Cover with foil and bake 1/2 hour, (375F,). Take off cover and bake a little longer until bubbly.
