Texas Margaritas
(makes 4—8 ounce servings)
6 ounces (3/4 cup) frozen limeade concentrate
6 ounces (3/4 cup) tequila
4 ounces (1/2 cup) beer
2 ounces (1/4 cup) orange juice
2 cups ice cubes
Coarse salt (optional)
1. In a blender, combine all ingredients except salt. Blend on high until smooth and slushy. Serve in salt-rimmed glasses, if desired.
These are quite possibly the best drink for a hot and humid day. The slushiness makes it extra delicious and it is extremely easy to make a large batch and leave in the freezer for when you’re ready. If you don’t have a blender, allow the limeade to thaw a bit and just pour over quite a bit of ice. You may want to add a bit of water, depending on how strong it is. At first, I thought the beer might be a little odd with the margarita flavor, but it just cuts the sweetness a bit and the carbonation is nice with the slush of the blended ice. This drink is great with chips and salsa, burgers on the grill or just by itself.
Although these two recipes are quite different, they both offer serious thirst-quenching magic for a hot summer day. Try on your next patio grilling party and let us know what you think or share your own refreshing drink recipes.
