Ingredients.
1 cup all-purpose flour
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon all-vegetable
6 tablespoons cold water
Vegetable oil for deep-frying
Coarse salt
Directions.
1. Combine flour and salt in a bowl. Cut in shortening with 2 knives. Add water, 1 tablespoon at a time, mixing until dry ingredients are moistened and dough can be gathered into a ball. Knead gently a few times on a lightly floured surface.
2. Pinch off 18 pieces of dough and shape into 1-inch balls.
3. Roll each ball between hands to form a 10-inch rope. Form each rope into a pretzel shape. Set on waxed paper.
4. Fill your deep fryer with vegetable oil to the MAX indicator. Set the adjustable thermostat to 374 degrees F and heat the oil.
5. Using the fryer basket, fry 2 to 3 pretzels at a time in hot oil 3 minutes or until golden brown. Drain on paper towels; sprinkle with coarse salt.
